Fontanel's first ever concert will be a flood benefit - 06.16.2010

Nashville’s newest tourist attraction announced its maiden music event today.

Songwriters Sing for Nashville, a flood relief benefit concert, will be held July 17 at The Woods at Fontanel amphitheater, 2,500 seat venue. Tickets, which cost $20, are available from Ticketmaster.com. Songwriters performing include Roger Murrah, chairman of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation, Matraca Berg, Kye Fleming, Dallas Frazier, Dickey Lee, Dennis Morgan, Hugh Prestwood, Mark D. Sanders, Don Wayne, Jim Weatherly and Mike Reid.

Organizers hope to raise about $100,000, which will be distributed by First Tennessee bank to flood victims. Anchor Trailways & Tours, which operates shuttles at The Fontanel Mansion, presented a $10,000 donation at this morning’s announcement.

The amphitheater and mansion are located on the 136-acre former estate of country music star Barbara Mandrell. The estate is 15 minutes northwest of downtown Nashville on Whites Creek Pike. Tours of the mansion cost $19. The attraction also includes free hiking trails, the amphitheater and a restaurant operated by Tom Morales of TomKats Inc. Fontanel is owned by Dale Morris and Marc Oswald.

Fontanel opened last week in conjunction with the CMA Music Festival. Morales said about 3,500 people came to take a tour of the mansion during the festival, which exceeded expectations.
